Two people were taken to the hospital after their house in southwest Oklahoma City caught on fire Saturday afternoon. Fire officials say the family's three dogs were killed in the fire.

Crews responded to the fire Saturday afternoon at a house, located at 3913 S.W. 26th Street. Calls came in from all over the metro as thick heavy black smoke could be seen from Interstate 44.

A father and a son were transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. They both tried to save the three family dogs, however, the dogs were killed in the fire.

According to officials, 80 percent of the house was destroyed by the blaze. Neighbors say they saw the smoke and heard loud explosions.

Firefighters say several tires were burning up in the backyard of the home.

According to fire officials, a preliminary report indicates the home's air conditioning unit caught on fire. The fire then spread to the house and the cars.
