Tulsa County Deputy Demonstrates Gun-Retention Techniques

Many Oklahomans will be carrying their guns on their hips once the new open-carry gun law goes into effect in November.

Some in law enforcement worry those citizens could have their guns taken away because they don't have the right training.

An expert with Tulsa County, Corporal Billy McKelvey, agreed to demonstrate gun-retention techniques, because he wants citizens to be safe.

He says the most important thing to remember is you have to want to keep your gun, more than the other person wants to take it, which means you have to be prepared to use more violence.

Watch the video to see his important tips.

McKelvey previously taught weapons and self defense tactics for CLEET, the state's law enforcement training agency.

He doesn't advise you openly carry your gun in the back of your waistband because others can get it and you can't defend it.

Gun-retention training is not required in the new open carry law, but many believe it's a good idea to have.
