New Meerkat Pup Thriving At Tulsa Zoo

The Tulsa Zoo has a new attraction. The 7-week-old female is the first meerkat to be born at the zoo since 1998.

The female pup - which has not yet been named - was born to meerkat mom Janet on March 29, 2012. The whole meerkat "mob" helps raise the young, with two females nursing the new addition, according to a release from the zoo.

Meerkats are small mammals belonging to the mongoose family. They are very entertaining to watch.

The Tulsa Zoo will introduce the media to the new attraction Friday, May 25, but she is out for public viewing now.
