Former Oklahoma State Wrestler Coleman Scott Qualifies For U.S. Olympic Wrestling Team

NEW YORK -

Former Oklahoma State wrestler and national champion Coleman Scott has qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic wrestling team.

Scott will compete in the 60 kg spot on Team USA in the men's freestyle wrestling in London at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Scott won the 60 kg title at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, but did not automatically have a spot on the team due to a unique situation where the United States had not yet qualified the 60 kg weight class. Scott had to defeat the top two U.S. wrestlers in the 60 kg weight class in order to solidify his place on the roster.

Scott defeated 2011 U.S. Open and 2011 U.S. World Team Trials champion Reece Humphrey on Thursday, before defeating top-ranked Shawn Bunch later in the day.

Scott was a 2008 NCAA champion and four-time All-American at Oklahoma State. He is a native of Waynesburg, Pa. Scott's appearance on the U.S. roster is the 41st time a former OSU wrestler has been on the Olympic roster.

Including all sports, Oklahoma State has had a former athlete at the Summer Olympics every time since 1924 where the United States has competed.
