TULSA, Oklahoma -

After some worry over getting a new contract for a trash hauler signed, the Tulsa City Council approved new trash rates Monday.

Now trash will only be picked up once a week, instead of twice a week, between July 1 and October 1.

The city's new trash hauler, NeWSolutions, also gave us a few new details, including information about what residents can and cannot put in the trash.

Until Monday afternoon, the city didn't have anyone to fill in the gap between the current contractor's service and the new contractor.

G. T. Bynum, the City Council Chair said, "We're putting aside our annoyance at the fact that this came down to the last minute and just looking at what do we need to do to be ready July 1."

The city will now bring on its new hauler, NeWSolutions, a little sooner.

To get it done, rates drop to $10.52 per month and the day of pickup will change.

This map shows the new collection zones and pick-up days.

The northwest part of the city doesn't change service, since it's already once a week.

You still have to bag all your trash so that carts stay clean, in case you swap out sizes.

The new ordinance states you can't put dead animals weighing more than 10 pounds in the trash.

And you can't put loose dirt, stones or rocks in the trash cart.

Councilors say this ordinance is the best they can do in the situation.

"The citizens hate being put in this position and we, as councilors, hate the fact that the citizens of Tulsa have been put in that position," Bynum said.

There will be no recycling plan during the interim period until residents receive and start using their new recycling carts.
