TULSA, Oklahoma -

The Tulsa Drillers continued to struggle against the Cardinals Sunday, falling 5-3 to Springfield thanks to one big inning from the Cardinals, losing their second consecutive game.

Tulsa jumped out to an early lead, thanks to a two-run single from Kiel Roling in the bottom of the third, scoring Josh Rutledge and Corey Dickerson to take a 2-0 advantage.

However, Springfield's offense came alive in the top of the sixth as they hung five runs on the board. After back-to-back singles to open the inning, Oscar Taveras homered to center field, giving Springfield a one-run advantage. Three at-bats later, Audry Perez singled to right field, bringing Xavier Scruggs home to take a 4-2 lead.

Perez came home two at-bats later, thanks to an Adam Melker RBI single to center field, putting Springfield in front 5-2.

The Drillers tried to cut into the lead in the bottom of the second, thanks to a two-out RBI single to bring Lars Davis home, closing the gap to just two runs. However, seven of the next nine batters were retired, ending the game.

Richard Castillo (5-1) picked up a win for his work, giving up three earned runs on six hits, striking out five batters in his 6.1 innings of service for the Cardinals. Dan Houston (7-6) struggled for the Drillers, allowing five earned runs on nine hits in six innings.

Tulsa will try to close out the series with a win at 12:05 p.m. Monday, before heading into a three-day hiatus for the All-Star Break.
