BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -

It can be dangerous to throw your financial papers in the trash, but now local police have a free solution to keep your identity safe.

Broken Arrow Police have teamed up with Paperchase to offer free shredding services five days a week.

Police say you should shred things like insurance forms and pre-approved credit card applications.

And Paperchase isn't just any business.

Paperchase is owned by the Gatesway Foundation - which promotes independence FOR people with intellecutual disabilities.

"That's our goal: To make sure people's documents aren't being taken and that we are employing people who might otherwise not have jobs," the Gatesway Foundation's Brad Mashburn said.

A bonus? Everything shredded is recycled.

In a news release from the Gatesway Foundation, it said that in one month, the service recycled 18,375 tons of paper, which saved trees, energy, water landfill space and curbed air pollution.

The drop-off site is located at 116 W. Commercial St. in Broken Arrow. Hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
