Federal Judge Rules For City In Former Bartlesville Police Officer Lawsuit

A federal judge in Tulsa has ruled in favor of the city of Bartlesville in a 2011 lawsuit filed by a former Bartlesville Police officer.

Cody Thomas claimed in his lawsuit, he had been harassed and subjected to racially-charged comments because of his Hispanic heritage.

The judge in an opinion issued this week said he did "not find any evidence of severe or pervasive harassment of plaintiff based on his national origin."

The judge also stated Thomas was "repeatedly disciplined for poor report writing and insubordination" and the city of Bartlesville gave Thomas "numerous opportunities to correct" those deficiencies.

Thomas' lawsuit was one of three filed against the city of Bartlesville and its police department.

Officer Beth Mitchell claimed in a 2011 lawsuit she has been repeatedly discriminated against.

Another officer, Adam Walker also sued the city. Walker alleged the police department had "created a work environment so retaliatory in nature" that it has affected his ability to perform his police duties.

Mitchell's and Walker's cases are pending.
