Sapulpa Coach Charged With 21 Felony Counts
CREEK COUNTY, Oklahoma - Prosecutors charged a Sapulpa softball coach with 21 felony counts, including child sexual exploitation and possession of juvenile pornography.
The charges were filed in a Creek County District Court Friday afternoon.
Howard Harjo, 54, is accused of secretly videotaping girls in the bathroom stalls of the girls' locker room.
Police said Harjo hid two cameras, one in a trash can, and that both cameras contained images of girls nude from the waist down. They said one shot even showed Harjo positioning and concealing the camera.
Harjo was arrested earlier this month.
According to an affidavit, Harjo was charged with nine counts each of child sexual exploitation and possession of juvenile pornography and three counts of peeping with photographic or electronic equipment.
The affidavit listed as many as 14 separate victims. The videos and still images from the two cameras investigators found, reportedly appeared to be dated from 2009 to 2012.
Harjo served as an assistant softball coach for Sapulpa Public Schools since 2008 until his arrest. He is also the head coach of an under-18 team called the Oklahoma Diamondbacks, a competitive squad for girls with college potential.
Police said Harjo confessed to hiding the cameras and recording the girls for his own sexual gratification.
