The first night of Oklahoma Highway Patrol's holiday DUI enforcement campaign netted 11 arrests for driving under the influence.

The "saturation patrols" will continue through midnight Sunday, July 8, according to Lieutenant George Brown of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

A total of 10 specially assigned state troopers stopped 121 vehicles in Tulsa County resulting in the 11 DUI arrests, 1 felony warrant arrest and one misdemeanor drug arrest, Brown said. Troopers also gave citations and warnings for speeding, no insurance, defective vehicles and other traffic offenses.

The troopers worked from 7 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday.

"We had a well thought out plan that was executed to the letter," Lieutenant Brown said Saturday.

"During the safety briefing prior to the operation, Troopers were instructed to cover lots of ground and use any means necessary to insure public safety on their assigned stretch of roadway," he said.

"These Troopers did their job well and because of their superb efforts, not one person in Tulsa County fell victim to a DUI related injury crash."

Troopers are not conducting checkpoints this July 4th weekend but are dedicating manpower to patrol for motorists who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
