It's the biggest change to Tulsa trash service in more than three decades.

The revolution started Monday morning as brand new CNG-powered trash trucks pulled out of Covanta Energy, where Tulsa's trash is burned. It was one of the first signs of the revolution underway with Tulsa's trash service.

At the NeWSolutions yard, the new fleet was returning by noon, after workers picked up 23 routes on the first day of the temporary scaled back service.

The trucks are so new they're plain white, with no name on the side - and they're still clean. They were ordered from Tulsa's Crane Carrier, and some just came in over the weekend.

"They're coming in," said Gary Percefull of NeWSolutions. "We'll get some in today, tomorrow. Trucks are coming in over the next week or two."

Monday the trash haulers wrapped up quickly, but Tuesday they'll do more driving over the largest of the five zones for pickup.

Tuesday - all of east Tulsa is on the schedule, along with the Northeast corner of the city.

The City of Tulsa reported few problems on the first day - mainly in areas where people put out trash thinking they were on the schedule for Monday.

In areas that were on the schedule for Monday - the City reported a few homes were missed - but the city was pleased with the first day performance of New Solutions.

Back at their new headquarters, the former Arrow Trucking site, they were wrapping up one day - and getting ready for the week ahead.

"It has been a fairly light set out day, and we think that will become heavier and heavier as you get later in the week you tend to experience heavier set outs," Percefull said.

They say it was a lighter than normal day because most of this area picked up Monday was also picked up late last week.

The city expects more complaints Tuesday because of people who think, incorrectly, that they were missed on Monday.

The city is urging people to check the website to for their pickup day or check their mail because a letter went out to every customer.
