Oklahoma To Be Well-Represented At London Olympics

Posted: Updated:

The American rosters are now set for the London Olympics and many of the finest athletes in the summer sports have ties to Oklahoma.

From gymnastics, to rowing and track and field -- the Sooner State will be in the spotlight.

The USA Men's Olympic gymnastics team is set and all five of the Sooners who competed at the Olympic Trials were chosen to represent the squad in the London Games.

The only veteran is Jonathan Horton, who won a silver medal on the high bar and lead Team USA to a bronze medal in the Beijing Games.

The University of Oklahoma grad was pretty proud.

"You do gymnastics your entire life and you finally accomplish this lifelong dream," Horton said.

Jake Dalton has one year of eligibility left at OU and this will be his Olympic debut.

The three alternates who will travel to London are Chris Brooks (2006-09), Steven Legendre (2008-11) and Alex Naddour (2010-11).

Analysts predict the Americans have a good chance to grab the gold in the men's team competition.

In track and field, OU's Brittany Borman is heading to London in the javelin.

Borman nailed a spot in the last round of the trials with the best throw of her life.

Former Oklahoma State University wrestler Coleman Scott has qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic wrestling team.

He'll compete in the 60 kg spot in the men's freestyle wrestling.

And of all the places to train for rowing, the USA rowing team chose Oklahoma.

"When you think of rowing, you probably don't think about Oklahoma, but when I came out here and saw all the awesome support and the facilities. I was real excited to be here," Nick Lacava of Team USA Rowing said.

Members of the four-man lightweight team took over the Devon Boathouse for their Olympic training base.

The race is a 2,000-meter sprint.

Oral Roberts University's Jack Whitt is an alternate on the U.S. Track and Field team.
