A Tulsa man drowned while swimming in Flint Creek Wednesday afternoon, a representative of the Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission confirmed.

Witnesses said Nelson A. Vasquez, 28, was "horse playing" when he went under in five-to-eight feet of water.

Some bystanders reportedly pulled Vasquez out of the water after 10-to-20 minutes, and immediately began to administer CPR.

Cherokee Nation EMS arrived shortly after and continued CPR, while in transit to Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital.

The OSRC said Vasquez was pronounced dead at about 2:10 p.m.

It happened just upstream from the U.S. Highway 412 bridge crossing Flint Creek in Delaware County.

The OSRC said this is the second drowning to occur within the last week within their jurisdiction.
