Fire Destroys Owasso Garage, Several Classic Cars

A fire destroyed a garage and workshop in Owasso with several vintage vehicles inside Sunday.

After a fire, it's tough to stay positive, but John Beeson is doing his best.

"No people hurt. Just cars," said Beeson.

Beeson is the president of the horseless carriage club of Tulsa.  Sunday, a fire destroyed several of his classics.  The fire gutted his shop on 104th Street North just west of Highway 169 in Owasso. 

"I put a lot of work in my '30 Chevy, and had a lot of work in my other ones," Beeson said. "They weren't completely ready, but they were going that way. Yeah, it's pretty hard."

The fire destroyed a 1930 Chevy two-door coach, one he'd just taken on a 150-mile tour.

It also destroyed a '23 Hudson and a '44 Chevy fire truck.

"To me it's just stuff, you know? I'm a Christian, so all it is, is stuff," Beeson said. "I'll replace it eventually."

Thankfully, a 1924 touring Dodge wasn't damaged.  But in addition to the classic cars that were destroyed, the garage also housed all of Beeson's tools and equipment.

He's in the process of putting a list together of all of the contents of the building for insurance adjustors.

"I want to get it over with, get in there and clean it up, just have to wait a while to do it," Beeson said.

Damage is estimated at tens of thousands of dollars. The building and vehicles are insured.
