Several families were displaced in an apartment fire overnight in Tulsa. Tulsa firefighters were called to the Red River Apartments at 71st and Riverside at about 3:30 a.m. after getting several reports of a fire.

When they arrived, there were visible flames shooting from a second floor balcony, according to Captain Danny Kiser of the Tulsa Fire Department.

"We made a rapid attack and knocked it out pretty quick," Kiser said.

Investigators tracking the burn patterns Friday morning say the fire appeared to have started on the balcony and worked its way inside. They have not determined the cause of the fire as yet.

"Approximately 16 families have been affected by the fire," said Donita Quesnel of the Tulsa Red Cross.

"The Red Cross teams are assessing damage and disaster-related needs to determine the best course of action."

The families were displaced from several units damaged by fire, smoke and water damage.

"We did have one small problem," Captain Kiser told News On 6. "We had a hydrant that actually broke."

Firefighters were able to switch to another hydrant to get the apartment fire out.

No injuries have been reported. The Red Cross was at the scene offering assistance.
