Sometimes the long shot pays off.  Showers and storms managed to slide into northeastern OK late yesterday afternoon and moved southward through part of the state bringing some rainfall and cooler air to some locations but not before highs topped out near 107 in the Tulsa metro.  We're looking for highs today in the 105 to 111 range despite a weak boundary that will move across the area.  Any showers or storms today will either be isolated across northern OK or be more concentrated across the far southeastern part of the state.  I will not carry a probability on the big map today.  The heat wave will continue with triple digit weather through the next 6 days.

The center of the ridge of high pressure was located to the west northwest of Tulsa yesterday and this allowed the small window for the weak wave to traverse the region.  This morning the center is still located to the northwest and this will allow a surface boundary to slide across the region later today.  The "back door" boundary will not bring any cooler air and will actually increase the highs across the NE Ok area.  Temps would soar from 105 to near 110 today.  The RAW NAM data has been suggesting some incredibly hot temperatures for today for the last few runs, and I have continually increased the highs day after day.  After today, the temps should slowly decrease a few degrees but not by much.  We're looking at highs around 106 to 107 this weekend before dropping to around 103 by early next week.  This stretch of hot weather will probably not break until about this time next week, and that may be a stretch.

Yesterday was the 13th summer day of 100+ weather.  The streak will extend to at least 19, and possibly more.  The record high for today is 109 from 1936 and 1934.  My forecast high is 109.

Rainfall was spotty yesterday evening but much appreciated.  The official total from Tulsa International was 0.32 inches bringing the monthly column to 1.32".  Rainfall for the year still supports a deficit of 4.50 inches of rain.

A special thanks to the most excellent Nick Bender for helping out in the weather office this week.  Trav, Mike, and Dick have all had special commitments this week and this resulted in Nick agreeing to come over from News9 to help out.  I greatly appreciate his help.  Nick is a top notch forecaster, and more importantly, an all-around good guy.
