Pulling For Tiger To Win Major No. 15

For those of us who grew us with Tiger as the premier golfer, it's easy to want to see him make history.

I find myself rooting for Tiger Woods on every swing during the Open Championship.

On the tee boxes, I start hoping the ball finds the fairway. When he draws back the irons, I'm thinking, "stick it close". And on every putt, I'm expecting him to dunk it.

I want to see history.

I didn't live in the era of Nicklaus, Palmer and Player. I never watched Ballesteros or Hogan or Jones.

I am of Tiger's golf generation. I remember when he won his first major. I was in fifth grade and we did book reports on him. I caught the tail-end of Michael Jordan's reign. I am in the middle, or beginning, depending on how you look at it, of LeBron James' time on the mountain top. I want to see Tiger do this. I want him to pass Jack's mark of 18 Majors.

I want to be able to tell my daughter that I remember Jordan's last shot, LeBron's first title (presumably of many) and Tiger's 19th Major. That's what makes sports so great. Breaking records and setting new standards for greatness.

Tiger Woods is the most exciting golfer ever, arguably. If you're an old timer, you'll say it was Jack. I'm a new timer, if you will, so I say it's Tiger. I want to see him as the king of golf. I think he can get there. I hope he gets No. 15 this weekend.

And I hope some kid comes along some day and goes on to win 20 Majors. The cycle continues.
