In one of the first orders of business for Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops on media day in Dallas, he announced senior running back Dominique Whaley has been cleared to resume all football activities.

Whaley, who walked on to OU in 2010 after a stint at Langston, led the Sooners in rushing in 2011 despite missing nearly half the season after suffering a broken ankle against Kansas State on the first play of the game. Whaley rushed for 627 yards and nine touchdowns in seven games.

Whaley made a splash in his first game last season, rushing for 131 yards and four touchdowns on 7.3 yards per carry in a 47-14 whipping of Tulsa. He also ran for over 100 yards against Ball State (109 yards, 2 TDs) and Kansas (165 yards, 1 TD).

Stoops said while everyone is optimistic and pleased with Whaley's current status, nothing is certain until he gets out on the field in full pads.

"Dominique is a guy that's trained well; he's been cleared to do everything. So he's out there running and training," Stoops said. "But until you get out there it's going to be kind of hard to say. I don't think Dom even knows until you get the pads on and make that sudden cut, is he going to feel comfortable doing it and all?

"But he says he feels really good and he's working well."
