The Tulsa Symphony will be opening the new Guthrie Green outdoor park with a free concert on September 9.

Hard hats and equipment populate the neighborhood where art, flowers, trees, a concert venue and a certain TV station will soon call home.

"Oh it's really exciting," said Stanton Doyle, of the George Kaiser Foundation. "I think it's kind of a culmination of the vision of the Brady Arts District that they've had for years. It's just a contribution of a neighborhood effort to make it the home for the arts of Tulsa."

The $8-million Guthrie Green will have gardens, paths, and water features. Right now, crews are roofing the pavilion which will host concerts and festivals.

"Hopefully, it will attract a lot of people in the downtown neighborhood that have never been before," Doyle said.

The greens of the Guthrie Green will be the finishing touch.

"Then you can see that there is a lot of planting that needs to be done. We'll be putting in plants and trees and grass here in the next few weeks," Doyle said.

Right across the street, the Griffin Communications Media Center is coming along. The builders say the progress on our new home is right on track. Concrete has been poured on our new studio floors.

Manhattan Construction's Bob Jack, said, "It's a concrete floor—nothing special. But it's an extremely large room. Real tall room with a lot of sound-proofing attributes to it."

Construction crews are working now on both the inside and outside of the building.

Up next—getting power to the transformer, so they can fire up the air conditioner.

"This is a key project in the Brady District with all the enhancements going down here, there's like eight different projects in this area, so this is one of the main projects that everybody kind of looks at, Manhattan Construction's Bob Jack said.

We'll begin moving to our new building in late autumn.

The News on 6's own Scott Thompson will be the emcee of that free Tulsa Symphony concert on September 9, which will also include the Tulsa Youth Symphony and the Tulsa Youth Orchestra, along with a fireworks show afterward.
