The opening ceremony of the Olympics got underway Friday in London.

Over the years, we've covered a lot of stories about the Olympics.

Rick Wells opened the video vault to when the summer Olympic Games were held in Los Angeles in 1984.

This footage revolves around the Olympic torch relay, which started in New York City on May 7, 1984, and ended in Los Angeles on July 28, 1984. Tulsa and Oklahoma City were both on the route.

About two hours after the torch relay began, the Soviet Union announced it would not be participating in the 1984 Summer Olympics.

You may remember the United States boycotted the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.
