French Toasted: Durant's 22 Points Leads Team USA To Blowout Win Over France

LONDON -

Kevin Durant scored 22 points and snagged nine boards to lead Team USA to a 98-71 blowout win over France in America's first game of the 2012 Olympics.

Durant's 22 points carried a balanced scoring effort for Team USA. Timberwolves' All-Star forward Kevin Love added 14 points, while Kobe Bryant scored 10 and LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony dropped nine points each.

Durant's Thunder teammates also contributed to the USA victory. Point guard Russell Westbrook scored nine points and James Harden chipped in five.

France is no international cupcake, sporting a starting lineup that includes four NBA players.

San Antonio's Tony Parker headlines that group, but the U.S. held the former NBA Finals MVP to just 10 points and one assist with four turnovers.

Parker's new Spurs teammate Boris Diaw added nine points and six rebounds for France, while Blazers' forward Nicolas Batum was held to just seven points.

Durant says that gelling together and having fun are the keys for Team USA.

"It was fun, we came out and played hard, guys played together. This is all that I expected. I'm glad that we were able to get the win tonight."

Durant also credits the unselfishness of this superstar-laden team as a big reason for its success.

"We don't care who scores," Durant said. "Guys are making the right basketball plays. We have so many great passers and scorers, it doesn't matter. I'm blessed that I'm a part of this team."

Following the game, the fourth OKC Thunder Olympian put on a show for Spain. Serge Ibaka scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds and rejected three shots in Spain's 97-81 victory over China.

First Lady Michelle Obama was in attendance to watch the American's dominant performance. The players hugged the first lady on their way off the court.

The U.S. will next play Tuesday against Tunisia, beaten 60-56 by Nigeria in the tournament opener.
