TULSA, Oklahoma -

Kids and parents are counting down the days until school is back in session. For some families, that means a panic over how to afford school supplies.

But teachers in a Union grade school had a solution Monday.

Grove Elementary teachers went door-to-door, handing out fliers to parents, to advertise the first ever back to school bash on Saturday.

Before the halls fill with kids, teachers from Union's Grove Elementary took to the streets.

"The teachers are super excited. They're all coming and volunteering their time. They're not getting paid to come out and sweat to death tonight," said Grove Elementary teacher, Celesta Catcher.

More than two dozen teachers went to students' homes to let parents know about a giveaway drive.

On Saturday, all of the school's Pre-K through 5th grade students can get school supplies, backpacks, shoes, shirts and a haircut—all for free.

"Some of them come in and don't have a backpack," Catcher said. "Some of them come in and aren't able to help with supplies that the teachers might need."

For the teachers, this is their first chance to meet some of the students.

"I know the kids are going to be so excited when they see the teachers come through the neighborhoods," said Grove Elementary Principal Kim Berns.

And for parents, it's a unexpected treat.

"This is great. It's great and when we called the school, they said they would be sending mail, but we never expected they would be coming door-to-door. That's really nice," parent Devender Pinnapareddy said.

Aside from handing out fliers, teachers are also telling parents how they can make sure their child is enrolled.

"It's a nice way to say welcome to school again," Pinnapareddy said.

A Tulsa church is sponsoring the back to school giveaway on Saturday at Grove Elementary. It starts at 9 a.m.

There will also be a dentist on hand to pass out fliers about dental hygiene.
