A spokesman for U.S. Rep. John Sullivan (R-Tulsa) says the congressman's security has been enhanced after an Oklahoma man allegedly threatened to kill Sullivan.

Sullivan said in a statement Thursday that he doesn't know the man. Spokesman Vaughn Jennings said the congressman's office is cooperating with investigators.

A complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Tulsa by the United States Capitol Police alleges 52-year-old Wayne Miles walked into the Skiatook Police Station July 22 and threatened to kill Sullivan. The complaint says Miles alleged the congressman was having an affair with Miles' estranged wife.

Sullivan said he doesn't know the man's wife.

A federal public defender appointed to represent Miles did not return phone calls or an email seeking comment.

Miles was in state custody and was released on bond. He is now in federal custody, pending a bond hearing Monday.

A Tulsa County court records search shows bench warrants were issued for Miles last week after he failed to appear in court for complaints of larceny and possession of a controlled substance.

He was initially arrested by Sand Springs police July 17 on allegations he was in possession of methanphetamine and stole goods from a Dollar General store. Miles bonded out on those charges the following day.

Miles has been previously named in assault and battery and drug charges, but the cases were dismissed.

In January 2011, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was gunned down in Arizona, in what investigators believe was a planned attack against the Democratic Congresswoman. Giffords was severely injured and six people were killed. Jared Lee Loughner, 23, is charged with the shooting spree, amid questions about his sanity.
