A Nowata boy who had a bone marrow transplant earlier this year is undergoing critical surgery Friday. Surgeons are intervening after Hunter Billbe contracted a serious infection in his stomach while recovering.

Billbe has a rare immune system disease that required a bone marrow transplant. He was given a big sendoff in his hometown when he left for the transplant in March.

Students and teachers held a party for their classmate, knowing that he would be going into isolation well into the summer.
