Authorities say five people were killed when their car slammed into a semitrailer and burst into flames on an interstate near downtown Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the crash happened at about 1 a.m. Friday near the junctions of Interstate 35 and Interstate 40. Troopers say five people were traveling in a Chevrolet Camaro when it veered into another lane, smashed into the tractor-trailer and caught fire.

All five occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the truck's driver wasn't hurt.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says traffic on Interstate 235 south at I-40 was re-directed for several hours as crews cleared the wreckage.
