TULSA, Oklahoma -

A Sand Springs woman was arrested for child abuse after she reportedly spanked her 5-year-old son with a bag containing broken glass.

Tulsa County Sheriff's deputies were called to Hillcrest Medical Center Sunday night by hospital personnel who were treating a deep cut to the child's upper right knee and a minor cut to his inner left thigh.

Deputies questioned the boy's mother, 24-year-old Alicia Anne Croney, who said she got a Doritos bag from the trash to spank her son with it after catching him playing X-Box without permission. Croney said she did not realize that the bag contained shards of glass from a jar of shrimp sauce that had broken in the kitchen.

Croney said she was cleaning up the broken glass when the family's dog ran off with a piece in its mouth. As she chased the dog to get the glass away from it, she saw her 5-year-old playing X-Box despite being told that he could not play for two days, according to arrest records.

She went to the kitchen and grabbed the Doritos bag from the trash can and used it to spank the boy, the report states.

The deputy said Croney told him she hit the boy "in the legs with the Doritos bag only once and very lightly."

When the child screamed, she saw blood coming from both his legs and took him to the hospital. The doctor in the emergency room told Deputy Christopher Yerton that it would have taken "some force to make the wounds that deep," the report states.

The 5-year-old required surgery to the wounds to his knee and thigh area, according to arrest records.

Croney is being held on a $50,000 bond.
