Gov. Mary Fallin has requested federal aid to help Oklahomans affected by the recent wildfires.

Fallin made the request Monday. The wildfires began July 28 and burned more than 114,000 acres. The flames destroyed 680 homes and businesses. An estimated 85 percent of the homes damaged or destroyed were not insured.

Fallin says the state needs the money to help Oklahomans get back on their feet. If the request is approved, it would help residents and business owners in Cleveland, Creek, Oklahoma and Payne counties. Additional counties may be added to the request later.

A statewide burn ban remains in place for all 77 Oklahoma counties.
