CREEK COUNTY, Oklahoma -

Authorities say a Creek County wildfire which scorched almost 90 square miles and destroyed 383 homes was started from a trash pile fire next to a home on tribal land.

Lt. Charles Redfern with the Creek County Sheriff's Office says the trash fire was located near the intersection of state Highway 48 and West 141st Street South and spread rapidly from there.

Creek County was under a burn ban at the time.

More than 30 fire departments from across the area fought the fire around the clock for several days.

Lt. Redfern says his office is working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the investigation into the cause of the fire.  He says they do have person(s) of interest in the case, but no arrests have been made.
