The Oklahoma State Cowgirls improved to 3-0 on the season with a comfortable 3-1 victory against Vanderbilt on Friday in Stillwater.

The fourth-ranked Cowgirls struck first when freshman Allie Stephenson scored in the 31st minute in the first half for her first career goal, who continued her stellar start to her career.

"It was pretty special," coach Colin Carmichael said of Stephenson's goal. "She's been a tremendous player for us, and that goal was just individual creativity and great ability. She's been maybe our best player over the three games."

The Cowgirls increased their lead in the opening minutes of the second half when Stephenson was again in the mix, assisting Megan Marchesano for a 2-0 lead. The goal was the 18th of Marchesano's career, leaving her just two shy of cracking OSU's career top 10 in goals.

Vandy scored to cut the lead to 2-1 but OSU put the Commodores away for good in the 82nd minute when Makenzie Kahan netted her first-career goal.

Carmichael said it was good to see the Cowgirls put multiple goals in the net after scoring just one in each of their first two wins.

"Scoring three goals was very pleasing, and we beat a very good Vanderbilt team," Carmichael said. "The fact that we had a couple girls scoring might give them some confidence that next time they'll bury some more… I'm very pleased with the effort and very pleased with the result."

The Cowgirls return on Sunday when they host Creighton at 1 p.m.
