A former Oklahoma County detention officer is behind bars, accused of assaulting of a restrained inmate.

An administrative board ruled Travis Ingram, 22, used excessive force on a prisoner who was handcuffed and shackled.

According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, cameras located inside the jail recorded the incident on July 19. After the board made its ruling, Sheriff John Whetsel fired Ingram on August 23. Ingram was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail. Ingram faces charges of aggravated assault and battery.

"Our system of checks and balances worked even though the inmate never reported the incident," said Sheriff Whetsel. "Our policy requires the internal review of every use of force incident. This type of behavior by any employee is not, and will never be tolerated. This is totally contrary to their training and the professionalism and character we require of our employees."

At the time of his arrest, Ingram was also under investigation for a domestic abuse incident, but the victim did not cooperate.
