TULSA, Oklahoma -

You've probably noticed them around and even inside your house. We're currently in the middle of a field cricket invasion in Oklahoma.

The insects seem to be everywhere and are chirping like crazy.  But why are there so many?

The Oklahoma State Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology have shed some light on field crickets. They say if crickets have safe places to lay their eggs, and some of their predators are gone, they can thrive.

OSU entomologists say this summer's right combination of weather conditions like heat and drought have helped with the field cricket explosion.

Many Oklahomans are not big fans of insect swarms.

"There was crickets, oh my gosh! They were all over the place, all over the ceiling, the walls. Crickets everywhere, I turn around and it was like a nightmare, a horror movie," said Laura O'Malley.

Experts say spike in population occurs every few years and the infestation should only last a few more weeks.
