OSU Freshman is Week's Top Newcomer

Cowgirl midfielder Madison Mercado is the Big 12 Conference Soccer Newcomer of the Week for games played from August 24th to 26th.

Mercado started at midfielder in a pair of OSU wins as the fourth-ranked Cowgirls improved to 4-0-0 and remained one of only two undefeated teams in the Big 12. In Sunday's 4-1 win over Creighton, Mercado scored two goals, becoming the first OSU freshman to record multiple goals in a game since 2010. The first goal of her college career tied the game at 1-1, and her late goal sealed the win for the Cowgirls.

Mercado is a freshman from Sapulpa. She's the first Cowgirl to earn a Big 12 weekly award this season.
