NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana -

Isaac is losing some of its strength and has been downgraded to a tropical storm as it trudges inland over Louisiana.

Isaac has top sustained winds of 70 mph, just below the hurricane threshold of 74 mph. The storm is about 50 miles west-southwest of New Orleans, where it is bringing drenching rains and fierce winds.

City officials are imposing a dusk-to-dawn curfew in New Orleans beginning Wednesday because of the downed power lines and generally unsafe conditions.

Forecasters are warning there are still life-threatening hazards from the storm surge and inland flooding.

Several projected tracks show the Isaac show it moving into southeast Texas and eastern Oklahoma by Thursday night and Friday.

News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone says the exact path of the storm is still uncertain but regardless of which model solution you look at, there will be a chance of rain and storm activity across Eastern Oklahoma by late Thursday night into Friday.

Crone says the difference in the model solutions could result in different rain totals for eastern Oklahoma.

The National Hurricane Center predicts that by the time Isaac reaches into Oklahoma it will be a tropical depression.  Forecasters predict the center of the storm will travel through Arkansas -- with the strongest winds and heaviest rainfall expected east of the eye.

The National Weather Service says hot and dry conditions will return after the system moves out of the area Saturday.
