WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma -
There's controversy
in the town of Weatherford, Thursday night, after college students accuse
police officers of forcing them to crawl to avoid being arrested for public
intoxication.
The police chief says they are investigating the claims.
The group of college students admits they were too drunk, but were
waiting on a designated driver. A cop pulled up, but instead of citing
them for public intoxication one officer allegedly suggested an unorthodox
punishment.
"One of the
officer told us if we would get down there and bear crawl that he wouldn't arrest us," said Dylan Frizzell, who was later
arrested.
Vince Stong and
another friend crawled about 70 feet to their friend's apartment.
"I just felt
disgusted and degraded for you to laugh at me while I am trying to go home. I
thought that was just pathetic," Stong said.
Frizzell refused
and chose to walk the course.
"I was pretty
angry at the time. I am glad I didn't say anything. I could've blown my top," Frizzell
said.
Instead he wrote a
scathing letter to the editor of the local paper about the alleged misconduct.
"I was shocked and
first off when we saw it. Nobody has come down and file a complaint or anything
like that. So once we found out about it we have taken the appropriate action,"
said Chief Byron Cox of the Weatherford Police.
Frizzell spent the
night in jail for public intoxication. He also has to pay an $84 ticket.
