MUSKOGEE, Oklahoma -

Editor's note: The Associated Press originally reported that three football players fell ill due to the heat, but Bacone College's president tells News On 6 the students were track and field athletes.

Bacone College officials say four track and field athletes at the Muskogee school fell ill Wednesday while running in the heat.

The school says members of the team were running Wednesday afternoon when temperatures topped 100 degrees.

Bacone College president Dr Robert J Duncan Jr. says as per policy, the college immediately suspended all outdoor sport practices.  Sports impacted included track and field, wrestling, softball and football.

He says two students were kept overnight at a Muskogee hospital and two were treated and released.

Dr. Duncan credited the quick response by Muskogee EMS, Muskogee Fire and campus police, saying the school's heat policy worked, but added, the school is going review it never the less.

The Associated Press contributed to this story.
