Things did not go as planned for No. 18 Oklahoma State in the desert on Saturday night as the Cowboys dropped a surprising 59-38 decision to Arizona in Tucson. Here is a brief look at some of the numbers that contributed to OSU's first regular season nonconference loss since 2009.
167 – The new school record for penalty yardage at Oklahoma State. The Cowboys committed 15 penalties on the night compared to just four for the Wildcats.
45 – The number of penalty yards on OSU defensive tackle Calvin Barnett, 18 more than the entire Arizona team committed on Saturday. Barnett picked up two 15-yard penalties on one play in the first quarter.
4 – The number of turnovers for the Cowboys, who also failed to force any. OSU led the nation in turnover margin in 2011 but were undone by it in the desert.
30 – After building a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, the Cowboy defense surrendered 30 unanswered points. The most unanswered points OSU has given up since its 27-0 loss at Oklahoma in 2009.
59 – OSU's vaunted 2012 defense has the dubious distinction of giving up the most points for a Cowboy team since a 61-41 Bedlam loss back in 2008. The fact it comes directly after OSU's first shutout in 11 years is just salt in the wound.
5 – The number of touchdowns scored by Tulsa Union products Tracy Moore and Jeremy Smith for the Cowboys. Moore had a career-best four scores, matching his total from the entire 2011 season. The former Union players accounted for every Cowboy touchdown.
436 – The passing yardage total for OSU freshman quarterback Wes Lunt. Despite throwing for three interceptions, the 18-year-old signal caller tossed four touchdowns and was a bright spot for the Pokes as he kept his composure despite multiple dropped passes and interceptions that went off the hands of his receivers.
135 – OSU had 135 more yards of total offense than Arizona (636-to-501), including more passing (436-to-320) and rushing yards (200-to-181). With OSU's penalty yardage subtracted from that total, Arizona would have finished with 32 more yards than the Pokes.
