Tulsa's 'Guthrie Green' Opens With Music, Family Fun In Brady District

TULSA -

It's an exciting time in the Brady Arts District as the Guthrie Green celebrates its grand opening in downtown Tulsa.

The park is located at Cincinnati Avenue and Brady Street, right across the street from the Griffin Communications Media Center, which is the future home to News On 6.

It has been a party on the Green all weekend.

There are been so many events and so much fun that park organizers are hoping will continue for years to come.

Guthrie Green is a new park right in the heart of the Brady Arts District and is a popping new spot for weekend events.

"We're so pleased that everybody has really embraced this park and given it the life that we envisioned for it," marketing director Chad Oliverson said.

This $8 million park was built with private money from the George Kaiser Family Foundation.

This weekend was filled with concerts, puppet shows and pure entertainment.

Oliverson says this is just a preview of what's yet to come.

"We have four series lined up, so on Saturday nights you'll see Horton Records with local bands and then you'll see Sunday afternoons with Tulsa Roots Music, which will bring in more regional and national acts," Oliverson said.

The park is attracting people from all walks of life: Kids playing in fountains, pets roaming around the green and adults jamming out to the music.

"I think it gives us an opportunity to have a space where we can all connect both parts of the city north and south," park visitor Marsha Campbell said.

The Green's opening has been anticipated by residents all over Tulsa.

"There's so much culture that Tulsa brings and so much variety all over the place and I love that downtown's actually bringing it all into one," park visitor Andrew Guzik said.

The park is also planning to offer free group exercise programs and movies on the lawn.

"I just think it's a great family space with the fountains and the architectural design, the landscaping. It's just fun," park visitor Polly Robinson said. "We see a lot of future bike rides with family, coming out here and meeting friends. This is a long time coming. We're really glad to see it."

Guthrie Green also features green technology.

It has a geothermal field underneath the grass that reduces energy costs to the area.
