A 57-year-old woman died early Thursday morning after she was shot in the kitchen of her Norman home.

Police were called to the house in the 1200 block of Stubbeman, near Flood and Robinson, just before 4 a.m. They found shooting victim Mary Ellyn Benavidez. She'd been shot once in the chest. Paramedics rushed her to Norman Regional Hospital where she died from her injuries.

Neighbors told News 9 Benavidez lived in the home with her grandson. Police said there were two other people in the house at the time of the shooting, and both are cooperating with police.

Police have not released any details about the shooting, or a motive. They did say, however, that the shooting was not a random act and Benavidez likely knew the person who shot her.

Oklahoma City police said soon after the shooting, a car connected to the crime was involved in a police chase. The two people ins the car were taken into custody and questioned, but have not been arrested.
