TULSA -

The University of Tulsa set up several donation spots outside Chapman Stadium on Saturday.

It is collecting cash for the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences and for the Tulane football player who was seriously injured in last weekend's game.

When tragedy strikes, the University of Tulsa comes together.

True Blue Neighbors is a campus organization that focuses on helping others in the Tulsa community.

Like any normal game day, the group sells t-shirts, but this time all money will go to the Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences.

The building was destroyed by a fiery explosion more than a week ago.

"We could see the smoke billowing up from the campus," TU professor Charlie Wood said. "We could even smell the odor. It was our opportunity to help when somebody really, really needed a lot of help."

True Blue Neighbors also has bins at every gate entrance to collect school supplies and money.

"They need the money and the school was a tragedy when it burned and they need to get it rebuilt," TU alum Jim Barnes said.

Over on the greens, the Golden Hurricane Club is also using a tailgate opportunity to collect cash for Tulane's Devon Walker.

Walker suffered a spinal injury at last weekend's game.

"From the moment it happened, we had an overwhelming response from our TU alumni family and friends," Golden Hurricane Club Director Connor Meier said. "When we came to the office on Monday, we had so many voicemails and emails saying, 'Hey, what can we do?'"

All of that support so far adds up to $8,000.

"It's just one of those things we ought to do," TU supporter Burte Banks said. "We hope that he comes out well. I bet he does."

The Golden Hurricane Club plans to take donations at the next home game as well.
