TULSA -
Ja'Terian
Douglas' first carry of the game went for a 67-yard touchdown. His second carry went for 73 yards. That pretty much sums this game up.
Douglas
ended up with 163 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries, leading the
Tulsa Golden Hurricane to a 66-16 win over the Nicholls State Colonels Saturday
night.
Quarterback
Cody Green looked sharp before he was pulled in the second quarter, completing
10 of 15 passes for 130 yards and two scores.
One of those touchdowns was a 31-yarder in the first quarter to the
long-lost Willie Carter. I mentioned in
the game preview that the Hurricane needed to get Carter more involved, and
this is a good sign.
Nicholls
State is coming off a 1-10 season where their only win was over an NAIA
team. This loss drops them to 0-2 after
falling to South Alabama last week. Despite
the lopsided score, this game could have been much worse. TU head coach Bill Blankenship used his plethora
of running backs to move the ball and grind the clock. The Hurricane ran 45 times for 333 yards and
seven touchdowns.
The Tulsa
defense looked sharp too, collecting five sacks and forcing three Colonels
turnovers. Dexter McCoil's third-quarter
interception of Landry Klann's pass was the 14th pick of his career,
a new TU record.
Tulsa
improves to 2-1 on the season and will host Fresno State next Saturday
night. Fresno comes to town after
putting a first-class beatdown on the Colorado Buffalos. Expect a high-scoring affair next Saturday in
Tulsa.
