The University of Tulsa's engineering department is getting a new home next Friday and it is putting a creative spin on the big move.

TU engineering students were hard at work today designing something special -- and practical.

"A design competition between our seniors and our freshmen to make machines that will actually cut the ribbon, for the dedication ceremony for Stephenson Hall - this beautiful building behind me," Mechanical Engineering Professor Steve Tipton said.

Tipton said the idea is inspired by Rube Goldberg devices -- elaborate contraptions that perform a simple task.

The winning machine will actually cut the ribbon by itself with just the touch of a button.
