Cowgirls Open Fall Season With Rogers State

Oklahoma State's Cowgirl Softball team will start its fall season Tuesday night when OSU hosts the Rogers State Hillcats in a single, 10-inning game starting at 6 p.m. at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.

Oklahoma State's Cowgirl Softball team will start its fall season Tuesday night when OSU hosts the Rogers State Hillcats in a single, 10-inning game starting at 6 p.m. at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.

Oklahoma State returns six position starters and the top-two pitchers from last year's squad which finished 25-26. Five Cowgirls return for their senior season, including hurler Kat Espinosa, who ranks among the top-10 pitchers in school history entering her final year. Also back in the circle is junior Simone Freeman.

OSU returns its top-four hitters from last season, including outfielders Shelby Davis and Tamara Brown, as well as second baseman Ari Morrison and designated player Amy Graham. Sophomore Gessenia DeLaCruz started every game at third base last season, while Tarah Ettinger and Taylor Woodall split time behind the plate.

Newcomers to the squad include: Erika Campbell, an outfielder from Cypress, Calif., Shianne Hughes, a second baseman/outfielder from Midwest City, Okla., Dre McKee, an outfielder from Jenks, Okla.; Tiffany Mikkelson, an infielder from Aliso Viego, Calif., Chelsea Ross, a pitcher from Kansas City, Mo., and junior transfer Shannon Kaufman, an outfielder from Agoura Hills, Calif., via Sacramento State.
