Saturday Morning Update.

Posted: Updated:

After today and tonight, our chances of any rainfall of consequence is pretty much in the slim to none category. And, as far as today is concerned, there will be a rather sharp gradient from N to S in the placement of the rainfall. The more southern counties can pretty much figure on getting wet with occasional showers/storms off and on throughout the day and extending into the overnight hours. The more northern counties will only have a slight chance of a shower/storm for today and perhaps into the early night time hours. Also, the slow movement of those showers/storms that do occur could result in some locally heavy rainfall amounts.

This is largely due to a tropical system from the Pacific that will be moving eastward across Texas today and tonight. Oklahoma is on the northern fringe of this particular system, thus the N-S rainfall gradient.

However, the cloudy skies will persist all day and for that matter through the night tonight. Together with a light NE wind, we will have a very short thermometer today. Temperatures started off this morning in the 60s and our daytime highs will struggle to reach the lower 70s for the more southern counties and mid-upper 70s for the more northern counties.

On Sunday, the system now moving through Texas will be working its way further on eastward allowing somewhat drier air to move into Oklahoma. So, after some morning cloudiness and possibly a few lingering showers for the more south and SE counties, we should see a good bit of afternoon sunshine. Morning lows will be in the 60s again, but daytime highs should reach the upper 70s and possibly a few lower 80s thrown in as well.

Monday is a little uncertain due to a prevailing N to NW flow pattern aloft. There will be some energy coming around the backside of the main storm system further east of us, but for now will keep the forecast dry with mostly sunny skies. Keep in mind, this is subject to change. As for temperatures, we should be in the 50s that morning and near 80 that afternoon along with northerly winds.

Tuesday will start off with northerly winds which should be returning to a southerly direction by days end. Thus after a cool start with lows in the 50s, look for a quick rebound into the lower 80s under mostly sunny skies.

Gusty southerly for Wednesday along with mostly sunny skies should result in daytime highs well into the 80s after a morning low near 60. Thursday morning will likely start off in the 60s with southerly winds with the next cool front arriving later in the day or perhaps overnight. The timing is rather uncertain at this time as a faster solution is provided by one of the longer range guidance products and a slower solution by another. That has obvious implications regarding daytime temperatures and there may be a few showers/storms with this system as well.

It will provide a nice cool down for Friday and Saturday under mostly sunny skies and brisk northerly winds.

So, stay tuned and check back for updates.
