The Tulsa men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over Marshall Saturday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in Conference USA, while the Thundering Herd recorded their first loss on the year and fell to 7-1-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.

"We knew we were going to play a very mature, experienced team in Marshall," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "They are a handful going forward, almost the total opposite of Tuesday night's game. They play a lot of balls and we had to defend that, and for the most part we defended well. We did a good job possessing the ball and getting the ball to our strikers."

Kyle Cumings scored his second goal of the season at the 16:09 mark as he punched in a goal from eight yards out off a cross from Cristian Mata. Omar Mata tallied his third goal on the year as he slotted in a free ball that was played into the box on a corner kick in the 85th minute.

The Thundering Herd had only conceded one goal this season prior to tonight's contest and had only been held scoreless once.

Cristian had a team-best six shots, while Akeil Barrett and Omar had three attempts. Stephen Roberson, Tony Rocha, Cumings and Bryce Follensbee all had two shots in the contest. Mark Pais played the full 90 minutes between the posts, recorded nine saves and earned his fifth shutout on the year.

Tulsa had a 23-16 lead in shots, including an 11-9 advantage in shots on goal, while the Hurricane also had an 11-7 lead in corner kicks.

Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, October 3rd against SMU. Game time is set for 7:00 pm in Dallas, Texas.
