Execution Date Set For Man Who Killed Oklahoma Couple

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals set December 4 as the execution date for 38-year-old George Ochoa, a man convicted of killing two people in their Oklahoma City home in July 1993.

Ochoa was sentenced to death in 1996 for the first-degree murders of Francisco Morales, 38, and his wife Maria Yanez, 35. Prosecutors said the two were gunned down in their bedroom while their two children were in the house. Morales suffered 12 gunshot wounds, and Yanez was shot 11 times.

After the U.S. Supreme Court denied Ochoa's final appeal, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt asked the state's criminal appeals court to set the inmate's execution date.

Ochoa's accomplice, Osvaldo Torres, was also found guilty and sentenced to death. Former Gov. Brad Henry commuted his sentence in 2004 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
