Broken Arrow Homeowner Opens Fire On Burglary Suspects

Two men busted down the door of a Green Country home Friday morning, in what turned out to be a botched burglary

It all went down around 9:30 a.m., near Kenosha and 129th East Avenue.

The attempted burglars had no idea the homeowner was inside, armed and not afraid to shoot.

She doesn't want to share her identity, but this stay-at-home mom wanted to share her story.

"It still doesn't seem real. It seems like it was just kind of a dream," she said.

The day started out like any other, until the homeowner heard a knock at the door.

Bella, the family dog, was on guard, as usual.

"He knocked several times and then I heard him say to someone, ‘They've got a dog,' and I thought that was kind of unusual," the homeowner said.

She checked the peep hole and didn't recognize the man on the other side, so the door stayed shut.

She said, when he left, she went for her weapon.

"I immediately ran and got my gun and put it in the holster on my hip," she said.

Now armed, she checked out all the windows to make sure everything was safe.

Just as she sat down in the living room chair, she said she heard someone coming back up the front walk.

"In less than a second, they were in the door. I mean, they kicked through the storm door, kicked through the front door," she said. "I didn't say anything to them, I just started shooting."

The homeowner fired three shots, but she said it happened so fast, she doesn't remember the third and she doesn't know if she hit either of the suspects. But there's proof she pulled the trigger in the fence about 100 yards from her home.

"I think I had my weapon already drawn when I saw his," she said.

Though she'd only had her revolver for about two weeks, she'd taken classes and was ready for just about anything.

"I have been, like, rehearsing this in my head and I think the Holy Spirit was just speaking to me, because I really felt something like this was going to happen," she said.

Looking back, she said she wouldn't do anything differently, except maybe aim better.

The suspects did have a gun, but didn't fire any shots.

The homeowner said the suspects got away in what was possibly a ‘90s model Ford with dark tinted windows and a sunroof.

There was no information on whether the men were wounded.

Police are looking for two white males in their mid 20s, both about 5'8". One has short, light-colored hair and was wearing a dark sweatshirt. The other man has brown hair and was wearing a dark gray or blue sweatshirt.
