Monday Morning Update

Posted: Updated:

Expect sunny and warm weather today with afternoon highs in the lower to mid-80s area wide.  South to southwest winds from 10 to 15 mph will be common.   The next system will quickly arrive Wednesday afternoon with limited shower and storm chances to our east.

The week appears to be in good shape regarding our weather with high pressure dominating the area today and a fast moving clipper sliding across the area Wednesday.  Low level moisture will be lacking, but a few isolated showers or storms may be possible Wednesday afternoon across extreme eastern OK.  The higher chances should occur across Western Arkansas and locations eastward where some strong to near severe storms will be possible.

The upper air flow will be transitioning to a northwest flow aloft pattern and allowing a short wave trough to quickly move across the area Wednesday.  All available guidance supports the higher chances for thunderstorms to be located east of our area, but I'll maintain a slight chance for the Wednesday afternoon time period.  The surface front will quickly move across the area Wednesday afternoon between noon and 2pm for the Tulsa metro and clearing the eastern areas by 5pm.  The window for the slight chance of showers and storms will be very small.

The rest of the week appears pleasant with cool mornings in the 40s and afternoon temps slightly below the normal average with highs Thursday and Friday expected near or slightly below 70.

The weekend will feature sunshine and southerly surface winds returning across the area with morning lows in the 40s and 50s and highs in the upper 70s.  The pattern should become active by early next week with additional rain and storm chances following.

Yesterday's high was 79.  Today's normal average high is 73 with the low of 51.

Daily records include a high of 91 from 1963 and 1938 with a record low of 37 from 2002.

Year to date rainfall is now at 26.79 inches of precipitation but we're still -6.72 inches below normal.
