The Oral Roberts women's soccer team will host Lamar Friday in a battle for second seed entering the Southland Conference tournament. The match, also Senior Night, will take place at the Case Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
Seniors Lauren Parks, Allison Hall, Whitney Booth and Johanna Sheppard will be honored before the game.
The Golden Eagles (10-4-2, 4-1) and the Cardinals (8-7-1, 4-1-0) will enter Friday's game in a tie for second place. ORU's conference loss came at the hands of first place Stephen F. Austin who the Cardinals have yet to play. Lamar's loss came on the road at McNeese State.
Each squad's conference losses were in the conference opener, as they are both riding a four match unbeaten streak. The Golden Eagles are 8-1-1 in the previous ten matches.
During last weekend's play, the Golden Eagles won a pair of extra period matches on the road, topping McNeese in overtime, 2-1, and ending the game in double-overtime at Nicholls State by the same score. Picking up the assist on each of the game-winning goals was Jennifer Abernathy, helping her to a Southland co-offensive player of the week honor.
There is a lot of upside to the Cardinals future, as they are led offensively by sophomores Kimmy Albeno and Kristin Bos, and between the posts by freshman Bailey Fontenot. Albeno has scored a school single season record nine goals, while Bos is right behind that mark with eight goals of her own. Fontenot leads the Southland with 91 saves, 12 more than Golden Eagle sophomore keeper Helen Erb.
In the five conference matches for each squad, the Golden Eagles have scored eight times, the second most in the conference, while Lamar has only allowed a single goal to both McNeese and Central Arkansas.
In 2010, the Golden Eagles were victorious over the Cardinals, 3-1, in the only meeting between the two schools.
