Several Green Country veterans got a bird's eye view in some vintage planes Saturday.

The Spirit of Tulsa Commemorative Air Force squadron usually sells rides on their historical planes, but they're giving veterans a free ride this fall.

Six World War II vets lifted off Saturday in a restored PT-19.

Most of them actually flew the same kind of plane when training for the war in the ‘40s.

Saturday, they had a chance to relive history.

"It's kind of like closing a loop, in essence, the fact that they learned to fly in these and, who would have thought in 1942 that 70 years later they'd get to fly the airplane again," said unit leader Robert Prater.

He says only a handful of these planes are still flyable, because most were sold or scrapped after the war.

The Spirit of Tulsa still has free rides available for World War II veterans. Call 918-794-4182 for more information.
