Tulsa Jail Inmates Take On Deputies In Charity Softball Game

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Inmates at a Tulsa County jail rallied against the Sheriff's deputies Sunday, all to benefit charity.

It was the first ever Stars and Stripes charity softball game between the two at OneOk Field.

All of the money raised went to the United Way, but it was much more than a fundraiser.

The Sheriff's Office said the game gives kids with parents in jail a chance to see that they are okay.

"I'm hoping that it will help strengthen the relationship when kids can come and see their parents or their dads," said jail administrator Michelle Robinette. "I don't let 'em in the jail under fourteen. Jail is a difficult place to be for an adult, let alone the child, so this is one way to have them come out and see that dad is doing something productive and having fun and he's okay."

The deputies won Sunday: 16 to zero.

Robinette said they're hoping to play again next year.
